Nintendo Switch price UPDATE, release date news and Switch specs tease

The Nintendo Switch price could become a massive factor in its success

UPDATE ONE: The Nintendo Switch price has yet to be revealed but already analysts are predicting a low price for the new console.

Macquarie Securities analyst David Gibson is quoted by Bloomberg as estimating that the device will cost $250 and that a strong gaming lineup planned for launch will help power the new gaming machine to 2.5 million units sold in its first month.

That would be followed by an additional 10.6 million units by March 2018, something that the Wii U was never able to achieve in the same time period.

The Nintendo Switch price could prove the defining feature over whether the new console is a big success or a massive flop.

The console market is set to get even busier in 2017 with the release of the Switch, along with the Xbox One Scorpio project near the end of the year.

The PS4 Pro, meanwhile, will debut in November 2016, and will have a big advantage over the Nintendo Switch straight from launch.

Both the Scorpio and Pro mid-cycle refreshes have access to a big collection games, many of which are likely to have upgrades visuals.

The Nintendo Switch looks to be carving out its own niche but has yet to be given a solid list of launch titles.

Following its reveal, Nintendo’s stock saw a 6.6 percent drop on Friday, losing $2.4 billion in market value and is apparently worse than the reaction markets had to the Wii U in 2011.

The Nintendo Switch release date has been set for March 2017, with many fans expecting a launch early in the month.

This is due to a recent report concerning the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launch and it being directly tied to the new gaming machine’s release.

If this recent rumour proves true, it will mean the Nintendo Switch will arrive on March 4, 2017.

The Japanese games giant themselves have only confirmed the month in which the new console will be released, with recent marketing leaks stating that retail units will start to arrive in February.

The Nintendo Switch price is said to be set for $299, although there will be a bundle available for $399.

Tesco previously advertised the Nintendo NX with a £350 price tag, although this could have just been a placeholder.

However, the fact that Tesco decided to publish the Nintendo NX pre-order page and then remove it suggests that the console price could be revealed soon.

The price could have a huge affect on just how many units are sold next year. Retailers in the UK have spoken on the subject recently, revealing that they hope a lower price point will help push audience growth.

A longer Nintendo Direct event is expected to be announced for next year, revealing more on the console’s official price and launch titles, which have yet to be confirmed.

The official Nintendo NX project reveal finally arrived for fans on Thursday, October 20, having had waited months to learn more about what the Nintendo Switch would be like.

NVIDIA has revealed more about what’s powering the handheld/console hybrid in a blog post on its website.

According to NVIDIA, the Nintendo Switch is powered by a custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor is said to include an NVIDIA GPU based on the “same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards”.

The fully custom software is also said to include a revamped physics engine, as well as new libraries and advanced game tools.

“NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance,” the post continues. “The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses.

“Gameplay is further enhanced by hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering.

“We’ve optimised the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases. This includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.”

NVIDIA says that the new technology has been integrated into all aspects of the Nintendo Switch, which has a March 2017 release date.

The Nintendo Switch is said to provide single-player and multiplayer thrills at home, as well as the mobility of a handheld.

“At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch dock that connects the console to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room,” reads a Nintendo statement.

“By simply lifting the Nintendo Switch console from the dock, it will instantly transition to handheld mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you.

“The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on a train, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.”
